Gautrain
The Gautrain is a state-of-the-art rapid rail network in Gauteng. It is a cost-effective, efficient, environmentally friendly and safe solution to traffic congestion. The Gautrain provides a high-speed, safe connection between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton, whisking passengers between the two points in less than 15 minutes. Gautrain’s network comprises two main links – one between Pretoria and Johannesburg and the second being the airport link. The Gautrain Station in Sandton provides the connection point for transport to Pretoria, OR Tambo and Johannesburg city centre.
The train travels at maximum speeds of 160 to 180 kilometres per hour and operates for about 18 hours per day. Dedicated bus services are provided for passengers and run in conjunction with the train schedules. Safety and security on the Gautrain are of the utmost importance and these features extend beyond the train to the platform, bus services and vehicle parking areas.
Travellers planning to utilise the Gautrain will need to purchase a Gautrain Gold Card. The card can be purchased at any of the stations.
